‘Flaming’ June in York

We drove to York through some very wet weather. When it wasn’t raining the spray was always causing problems. We stopped at Poolsbrook Country Park Caravan Club site overnight and then moved on to York the following day. A short drive.

Following the damp weather we managed to set up in the sunshine on a very nice pitch. The site had been flooded the previous weekend, but was drying out.

Our first outing was to Nunnington Hall a National Trust Property. The property is by the River Rye , north of York.

In the afternoon we travelled to Rievaulx Terrace. This a grassy terrace overlooking Rievaulx Abbey. On the terrace is a rotunda and this Ionic temple with a stunning interior already set for dinner.

We found out from a volunteer at one of the National Trust properties that Holgate Windmill was going to be open to the public at the weekend. I did a thesis, on windmills, at college many years ago and still maintain an interest in them. This windmill is unusual in that it has 5 sails instead of the usual 4. This is the first time we have seen a windmill on a roundabout in a residential area.

At the moment we are still York and this is being sent through the caravan site Wi-Fi.

There is still more to come on York – watch this space.

The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and more

All the renovations for the kitchen and en-suite are now finished and in full use. The kitchen was finished a couple of weeks ago. We are extremely pleased with the outcome. The last thing to be done was a shower pump, because the water pressure was rather weak and getting wet a long process. If you don’t think the kitchen has changed much, it hasn’t. We kept the original cabinets, but changed the work top, tiles, vinyl floor plus some more bits and pieces.

Graham and Jean came to see us for the day. The last time they came we were due to go to Harry Ramsden’s for lunch, but a water leak had closed the restaurant. This time we were confronted with this at the entrance. Oh dear, not again!

Fortunately they were only doing up the entrance and the restaurant was still operating.
Here we are in the Winter Gardens and along the prom.

A geocaching expedition with Tony and Ellen close to Petersfield. The chap with the labrador was another geocacher who we met en-route. We found all the geocaches attempted so were very pleased.

The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee weekend – Maggie and Andy came to visit so they could join in with the celebrations.
We had our Big Jubilee Lunch on Sunday afternoon at the same time as the Diamond Jubilee Thames Pageant. As you can see the weather was dry and overcast and that’s the way it stayed all afternoon, so we were very lucky, unlike everyone in London.

On the Tuesday Sue’s brother Neil and nephew, Daniel arrived for lunch. The afternoon walk was rather damp. Daniel is wearing Sue’s wellies and waterproof hence the oversize look.
